Rashawn Slater, offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers, who recently agreed to a four-year, $114 million contract extension, will miss the 2025 season after tearing his patellar tendon during Thursday’s practice. His average annual salary of $28.5 million is the highest ever for an offensive lineman in NFL history.

The lineman left practice on a medical cart, immediately sparking concern. Teammates gathered around to embrace him before he was taken to the locker room.

He played in 15 games last season, while in 2022 he missed the final 14 games with a torn biceps. Drafted in the first round in 2021, Slater earned a Pro Bowl selection last year. In terms of numbers, he allowed three sacks and 22 pressures in 244 pass-blocking snaps.
