Bengals 31 vs 17 Niners summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 8

The Cincinnati Bengals stretched their winning streak to three games, while the Niners were handed their third straight loss after a 5-0 start.

The Cincinnati Bengals came out of their BYE week ready to make up for lost time. It was a rough start to the season, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but Joe Burrow and the Bengals looked like they were back to their best after a week off. Burrow had 283 yards and three TDs in the 31-17 win over San Fran from Levi Stadium.

Burrow 100% after BYE week

The Niners returned home, where Brock Purdy had never lost a game, after two straight losses on the road. Life wouldn’t get any easier for the one-time best looking team in the league. The Bengals came into town of the heels of a BYE having won two straight games before their week off.

Zac Taylor’s squad looked like the team we have grown accustomed to seeing over the last few years, but had yet to reach their full potential this year. Burrow was noticeably more mobile having rested that injured calf, as he not only finessed his way around the pocket, but was able to make big plays down field with his feet.

Cincy came out firing, scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions. Burrow and Ja’maar Chase connected continuously and that opened up space for guys like Tyler Boyd and Andrei Iosivas who caught first quarter touchdowns.

Purdy starting to crack under pressure?

Christian got into the end zone in the first quarter as well, stretching his TD streak to a NFL record tying 17 games. The offense looked better than they have in the last few weeks, even with Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams sidelined with injuries.

Brock Purdy threw for 365 yards, but threw two second half interceptions on back-to-back throws, the first of which came on 1st and Goal from the CIN 8 yard line. It was the Bengals defense that came up with the big plays when it mattered as the Niners struggled to contain Burrow and Chase who connected on a TD to make 24-10 a play after Purdy’s second INT.

San Fran would cut into the lead midway through the fourth quarter when McCaffery scored his second TD of the day, but Burrow and the Bengals closed out the Niners on the next drive, going 78 yards as Joe Mixon landed the knock out blow to hand the Niners their third straight loss.

Joe Mixon shut the door on the Niners with this 5 yard run that he high stepped into the endzone. He had 87 of the 134 rushing yards in the 31-17 win.

as.com

Today's odds

The Niners return home as 4 point favorites over the Cincinnati Bengals with the Over/Under set at 44.

I'm going with the Niners to cover in San Fran. They have to respond after two straight losses and I think they come out and make a statement against the Bengals at Levi Stadium.

San Fran 31-14.

as.com

CMC's TD streak

It’s one of the most impressive streaks we have ever seen in the history of the league. Christian McCaffery has scored a TD from scrimmage in 17 straight games and doesn’t’ seem like he’s going to be slowing down anytime soon. The former Panther was traded to the Niners last year and he plugged into Kyle Shanahan’s offense immediately. Since Week 7 of last season, no one has had more TDs (19) or yards from scrimmage (1,940) than the Niners RB. With no Deebo available today, the Niners will need McCaffery more than ever if they are going to put an end to their losing skid.

as.com

Niners nicked up

The San Fran offense hasn’t been the same since Deebo Samuel was sidelined after getting tackled and falling on his shoulder against the Cleveland Browns. The dual threat receiver brings an X factor to the Niners offense that they haven’t been able to replace in his absence. He will miss his second straight game after being diagnosed with a hairline fracture in that shoulder, and that means the Niners will have to find a way to get their offense moving like it was in the first five weeks of the season, especially when you consider that left tackle Trent Williams is also out with an ankle inury.

as.com

Joe Burr back from BYE

The Bengals no where their bread is buttered and it starts and ends with their fourth year gun slinger Joe Burrow. Burrow hasn’t been as zoned in as we know he is capable of, but once he gets healthy we know that he and the Cincy offense will be back firing on all cylinders. He may not be at his best just yet, but one thing we can never question is his sense of fashion. He recently told reporters that it’s his friends that pick out a lot of his outfits. Among his fashionable friends/stylists is another Ohio icon, Kid Cudi. As always Joe Cool was flashing the threads coming into Levi Stadium.

Brock back in the Bay

Are we starting to see the first signs of Brock Purdy showing his youth and inexperience? In the last two games, he hasn’t looked as perfect as we are used to seeing him play. He threw two picks last game, and against the Browns he threw his first one of the season. He still has a fantastic TD/INT ration at 11-3, but the Niners haven’t been moving the ball like we are accustomed to seeing. It’s true they’re have been some injuries that have made winning games against good teams like the Browns and Vikings much more difficult, but it looks like the Niners have hit a bump in the road. Getting back on track isn’t going to be an easy task, especially against the Bengals who are looking for their first quality win of the season.

Bengals last week

The Bengals enjoyed a much needed BYE week after a turbulent first six games. They didn’t just lose three of their first four games, they put up just 3 points in two of those loses and looked like a shade of the team we have seen over the last few years.  Joe Burrow had a calf injury for the first month of the season, which made things difficult for him, and in turn, for the Cincy offense. The Bengals started to turn things around in Week 4, scoring 34 points in a win over the Cardinals and then beat a tough Seahawks team in an ugly game from Paycor Stadium. They were just starting to find their rhythm when the BYE week came, and now it’s time to find out if they can carry that preBYE momentum into today’s game in the Bay.

Niners last week

After losing their first game of the season in Cleveland, the Niners had a Monday Night showdown with a Vikings team in a similar situation as the Bengals were in before their BYE. They started the season terribly and were on the edge of desperation, and they played like that agains the Niners last week. The Vikings overcame an INT on the third play of the game to hold off the Niners who for a second straight week couldn’t find their groove on the offensive end. Kirk Cousins passed for 378 yards and two TDs, while the San Fran D got zero rush on the Vikings QB. Purdy didn’t put up terrible numbers but two late INTs in the fourth quarter sank San Fran for a second week.

We are live from San Fran

Hello everyone and welcome to Levi Stadium where he Niners are back home after a tough two game road trip that proved that Kyle Shanahan’s men aren’t as invincible as we once thought. A loss in Cleveland and another in Minnesota has brought the Niners back to earth, and it’s not going to get any easier today against the Bengals. Cincy had a dreadful start to the season, dropping three of their first four as Joe Burrow was fighting through a calf injury he suffered in preseason. He has had an extra week to rest that calf, and the Bengals will look to keep up their two game win streak alive by beating a third straight NFC West team.
