Brock Purdy has signed a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, putting pen to paper on a mouthwatering five-year, $265 million extension.

Purdy helped take the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in his rookie season and across three stellar years he has put up a 23-13 record in 36 regular season starts, numbers that have gifted him a Pro Bowl appearance and a fourth-placed finish in MVP voting for 2023.

Reports with knowledge of the negotiations claim that the 25-year-old deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $53 million, putting him seventh in the list of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, level with the Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff (according to OverTheCap).

Ahead of signing the extension, Purdy was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, a deal which had a cap hit of around $5.36 million after having earned around $2.63 million for his first three seasons combined.

Last season, Purdy put up a 6-9 record across 15 starts in the NFL, putting up a disappointing 65.9% completion rate, while tossing 12 interceptions and getting sacked 31 times.

Purdy’s deal is a record for the 49ers: for context, in 2018 the side handed their then-quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, a five-year, $137.5 million deal. Now, the last pick in the 2022 draft – No. 262 overall, a pick which saw him dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant” - is certainly doing well to get rid of his nickname.
