Several NFL franchises are keen on quarterback Baker Mayfield, who is looking for a new team after the Cleveland Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in a trade with the Houston Texans.

According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, the Carolina Panthers are leading the race to secure the 27-year-old’s services.

Darnold, Walker the Panthers’ current QBs

The Panthers’ current quarterback is Sam Darnold, who has stated his belief in his abilities despite the potential arrival of a new QB at Bank of America Stadium, telling the podcast Bussin’ with the Boys: “I know I’m a good quarterback. I can be a good quarterback in this league. I’ve proved it.”

Carolina also have P.J. Walker, a former XFL player who has started one game for the franchise, in the 2020 season.

The Seattle Seahawks are also among the franchises to have shown an interest in signing Mayfield. The chief stumbling block to any deal for the Oklahoma product, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2017, is his guaranteed salary of $18.86m.

Panthers’ Anderson gives thumbs-down to Mayfield arrival

Although the Panthers’ front office is interested in Mayfield, there are Carolina players who don’t want him in the roster.

The wide receiver Robby Anderson isn’t keen on playing with the quarterback, and made his feelings public on social media. Anderson this week published a negative response to a Panthers.way Instagram post that made reference to the QB’s possible arrival.
