While injuries, scheduling, and roster rotation can wreak havoc on teams in the NFL, there is also the problem presented by that which is even more unpredictable, the weather.

Potential severe weather could impact 3 NFL games in Week 3

It’s that time of year again when the heat of summer finally begins to dissapate in the northern hemisphere of the globe bringing with it a change in air pressure and temperature. What that normally means is that the risk of severe weather conditions increases with tropical depressions and hurricanes becoming significantly more likely. Understandably, it’s no surprise that the NFL is now bracing for what could be a few disruptions in its Week 3 schedule. To be clear, the United States is not currently in the path of any major hurricane, however, it’s understood that a cyclone-turned-tropical storm could pose a threat.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), an area of low pressure has given rise to what is being referred to as “Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen.” As things stand, the system is reportedly making its way up the Eastern Seaboard, meaning it has now been forecasted by the NHC as on its way to becoming a tropical or subtropical storm on Friday. In keeping with the NHC’s projections, the system is expected to reach Maryland by Saturday. To that end, it’s very likely that wind and rain will pose a problem for three games: The Buffalo Bills at the Washington Commanders in Landover, Maryland, the Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore, and the New England Patriots at New York Jets in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

It’s worth noting that the NHC’s forecast indicates that both Baltimore and New York could receive as much as 2-3 inches of rain. Additionally, tropical storm warnings have been issued from South Carolina into eastern Maryland. As per reports, the storm’s largest impact will be felt on Friday and Saturday with ‘lingering impacts’ said to be possible on Sunday.
