Cowboys legend warns Dak Prescott about his new QB teammate: “If you give him a chance on the field, it’ll be ugly”
The Dallas Cowboys signed a backup for quarterback Dak Prescott - Joe Milton III - and Hall of Famer Michael Irvin warns Prescott about the young player.

The Dallas Cowboys lost their trusty backup quarterback Cooper Rush this offseason. Rush filled in for starting quaterback Dak Prescott for half the season in 2024, when Prescott - the highest-paid player in the league - sat out with a hamstring injury.
Without Rush, and with Trey Lance having left in free agency as well, that left just Will Girer behind Precott on the depth chart. The Cowboys were in need of another backup for Prescott in 2025. They went with former New England Patriots backup quarterback Joe Milton III.
Cowboys legend warns Prescott about Milton
Hall of Famer Micael Irvin has sent out a warning to starting QB Dak Prescott, who he thinks could have his job stolen from him if he’s not careful.
“Don’t give this kid a chance, Dak,” Irvin said on his YouTube channel. “You better stay healthy, stay ready, stay on the football field.”
I guess this was a very intriguing audition, despite the competition (2s and 3s?).

25-year-old Milton was the Patriots’ selection in the sixth round, finally able to show off his talent in the Pats’ final game last season. He finished 22-of-20 for 241 yards and a touchdown. Despite his impressive performance, Milton assumed he wouldn’t ever take over the starting role if he stayed in New England. Apparently Irvin doesn’t necessarily think he’ll have that same problem in Dallas.
“Now remember, you’re making $60 million a year,” Irvin reminded Prescott. “This kid (is) making only $1 million. If you give him a chance on the field, it’ll be ugly.”
While Milton does have an impressive arm and had an equally impressive debut, there’s a reason he fell to the sixth round in last year’s draft, and that’s inconsistency. If Milton doesn’t stay consistently at a high level, he won’t be a real threat to Dak.
