Just hours ahead of the Dallas Cowboys’ regular season opener against the Cleveland Browns, they got a deal done with their starting quarterback Dak Prescott.

All offseason, it’s been a point of tension as Prescott was set to enter the final year of his former contract extension with Dallas and would have become a free agent at the end of the season had a deal not gotten done. Leave it to Jerry Jones to wait until the very last minute to get the deal done.

Dak Prescott’s contract details - here’s how much he’ll earn

It was reported that the reason the deal was taking so long was that the length of time could not be agreed upon. It was agreed that Prescott would definitely become the highest-paid quarterback in the league at some point, but the question was whether or not that would be with the Cowboys. Now, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension.

The deal includes $231 million guaranteed and an $80 million signing bonus, the largest in NFL history. Indeed, Prescott has become the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history, earning $60 million a year, surpassing Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love, who all recently signed contracts that will earn them an average of $55 million a year.

Prescott is in Dallas to stay at least until the 2028 season with this contract. Last season, the three-time Pro Bowler led the league with 410 completions and 36 touchdowns and finished second in MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson.

The Cowboys will play the Browns tonight at 4:25 p.m. today in Cleveland. You can catch all the action live with our text commentary brought to you by yours truly right here on AS USA.
