Dak Prescott has his say on the new face at the Cowboys

Dak Prescott has a clear goal for the 2025 NFL season—and it’s the same one the Dallas Cowboys have been chasing for more than 30 years: winning the Super Bowl. On the final day of mandatory minicamp, the quarterback told the Cowboys’ website that his legacy doesn’t matter to him—he just wants to one day lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“I want to win a championship,” he said. “The legacy and all that stuff—whatever comes after I’m done playing—will take care of itself. I want to win a championship. I’ll be damned if it’s just for my legacy, for this team, or even for my own sanity. The legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are.”

Prescott’s comments come at a time when talk of his legacy is fitting. The Mississippi State alum is fewer than 3,000 yards away from becoming the Cowboys’ all-time passing leader. Still, his playoff résumé is limited: just two postseason wins, both in the Wild Card Round (2018 and 2022).

‘You have to find out for yourself who they are’

In 2024, Prescott was limited to just eight games due to a hamstring tear, and the Cowboys stumbled to a 7–11 finish. Now, with Brian Schottenheimer taking over as head coach, the franchise enters a new era—one that includes key additions like wide receiver George Pickens, acquired via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers to help boost the offense led by the three-time Pro Bowler.

Pickens arrives with some baggage, having been criticized for his behavior during his time with the Steelers. But Prescott isn’t concerned. He emphasized that outside opinions shouldn’t shape how players are judged.

“I think that’s why you should never really listen to what someone else says about someone,” Prescott said. “You have to find out for yourself who they are and let them reveal their character to you. The guy has been great. He’s been phenomenal.”

The veteran quarterback also said he’s thrilled to have Pickens on the team, regardless of the receiver’s past reputation. Prescott noted that Pickens has done everything right so far and is fully bought in.

“He’s a guy who loves football, loves his teammates, and has brought great energy every day he’s been here,” Prescott said. “He even showed up early. There’s no need to worry about G.P.’s personal issues or anything like that. I’m really excited he’s on our team.”
