Dalton Schultz to play under franchise tag

The franchise tag deadline came and went on Friday, and there’s no long-term agreement in sight for Dallas Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz. Dallas let pass the deadline for signing players with a franchise tag to a longer contract, so Schultz has no choice but to play under the tag.

They’re here! Madden NFL 23 ratings: who are the best players in each position?

The two sides could not agree on a multi-year deal that would ensure that Schultz would remain with the team after the 2022 season, so he will be playing for one more year with a fully-guaranteed salary of $10.93 million. They won’t be able to negotiate a new agreement until the season ends, but it seems probable that the tight end will enter unrestricted free agency after his contract is done.

Tyron Smith is number five on list of top ten offensive tackles

ESPN’s annual survey of NFL executives, coaches, scouts and players to determine the best 10 players in various positions ranks Tyron Smith as fifth on the list of the NFL’s top 10 offensive tackles for 2022. This is four places up from his ninth place finish last year.

Smith had his highest-ever Pro Football Focus rating last season at 91.9. The 31-year-old still has two years remaining on his eight-year contract with the Cowboys worth $97.6 million. The veteran is known for his heavy hands, toughness, and athleticism.

Zeke Elliott ranks fifth among top running backs

The Cowboys took a long hard look at the field of running backs they are up against and tried to determine where their own Zeke Elliott fit in. The 26-year-old proved he could still rack up elite numbers by delivering his fourth 1,000 yard season in six years. DallasCowboys.com thus put him at number five on the list, after Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts who was the number one choice, Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans, the Minnesota Vikings’ Dalvin Cook, and Joe Mixon of the Cincinnati Bengals.
