Cowboys hold inaugural Season Kickoff event

The Dallas Cowboys have held their inaugural Season Kickoff event as a way to look back at how they have grown and to look forward to the season to come. The evening was a chance to talk about the franchise’s performance, expectations, and goals, but it was also a night to honor those who have made major contributions to the team.

Among the winners were Micah Parsons, who was given the Playmaker Award for having an excellent season in 2021, Trevon Diggs, recipient of the Breakthrough Award for a standout performance in only his second season, and Beyond the Gridiron awardee Dak Prescott, who was recognized for his work in the community outside of football.

Andrew Whitworth says the Cowboys gave him a call

Retired tackle Andrew Whitworth, who was part of the Los Angeles Rams’ victory at the Super Bowl last season, said that the Cowboys gave him a call after the injury of Tyron Smith. He was asked on Amazon’s Thursday Night Football if his phone had been ringing, and he referenced Dallas.

Whitworth confirmed that he had been receiving some calls, but later joked that it should be his wife Melissa and their kids who should be contacted as they have the final say on whether or not he would be returning to professional football.

Will Grier pursues spot in Dallas roster

The Cowboys will play their last preseason game on Friday night, and quarterback Will Grier could be seeing a lot of action. Head coach Mike McCarthy says he wants the 27-year-old play as much as he can, and the fourth-year quarterback will most probably take the opportunity to show that he is worthy of a spot on the roster.

Dak Prescott is firmly entrenched as the team’s starter, but Grier may still edge out Cooper Rush for the backup job.
