Dallas Cowboys top Forbes’ NFL rich list

Forget about actually winning the Super Bowl - it’s been almost 30 years since that happened - but when it comes to making money, the Cowboys are lit.

You have to go all the way back to 1995 - yep, before many of you reading this were born - to find the last time the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl. But despite not being crowned the best side, the Texan side have once again been named the most valuable National Football League team for a 16th consecutive year.

Cowboys riding high on Forbes finance list

While the rest of us have been getting excited about the preseason activity, the folk at business magazine Forbes have had their abacuses out and on Monday were able to announce their annual list. Not only have they not won the big end-of-season prize for almost three decades, the Cowboys have only made the playoffs four times in the last 12 seasons. But they were calculated to be worth an incredible $8 billion. That’s up 23% from 2021.

Next on the rich list come the New England Patriots ($6.4 billion), and they are followed by the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams ($6.2 billion), the New York Giants ($6 billion) and the Chicago Bears ($5.8 billion). In general it’s been a positive uplift across the league, with Forbes stating that the average value of the NFL’s 32 teams rose 28% percent from last year to $4.47 billion. It’s worth noting, however, that this will due in part to the $4.65 billion sale of the Denver Broncos to the Walton-Penner ownership group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton, in conjunction with the likes of Lewis Hamilton.

The lowest valued franchise on the list were the Cincinnati Bengals, last season’s narrowly beaten Super Bowl team, who came in at $3 billion.
