Cowboys suffer embarrassing 42-10 loss to Niners
The Cowboys did not get their vengeance on the Niners, who have stolen their post season dreams the last two years in a row. Not only that, but they were dealt an embarrassing, blowout loss to San Francisco instead.
Niners dominant on all sides of the ball
The 49ers were already up 14-0 before Dallas was even able to get a first down, let alone on the board in the second quarter, and that was also after the Niners forced three 3-and-outs and a fumble. The Niners offense dominated Dallas, with QB sensation Brock Purdy finishing 17-of-24 with 252 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those TDs were from TE George Kittle.
Disappointment for Dallas
The Dallas offense, however, did about one good thing, which was a 78-yard touchdown drive, finalized by special teams ace, Kavontae Turpin. Otherwise, all they did was commit errors with sacks, turnovers, and interceptions GALORE.
Injuries on the Cowboys
To add insult to injury, or rather, injury to insult...Dallas saw a few of their starters limp off the field in pain. Defenders Leighton Vander Esch, DaRon Bland, Donovan Wilson, plus KaVontae Turpin, and C.J. Goodwin all left the field with injuries at some point. The extent of those will be revealed at a later time.
What's next for the Niners and Cowboys?
The Niners improve to 5-0 and keep their undefeated streak. Brock Purdy still hasn't lost a game as a starter in the NFL. They will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns next week.
The Cowboys fall to 3-2 and are two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. They will take on the Los Angeles Chargers at home for Monday Night Football next week as they look to come back from a second embarrassing loss on the season.
The Cowboys have now become the first team since 2015 to win by 30 points one week and then lose by 30 the next. It's not exactly a stat to be proud of but perhaps it highlights some of the teams' inconsistencies and allows them to look at the questions and search for an answer and solution to their issues on the field.

Davis-Price gets no gain
Delay of Game on Niners at 3rd and 2, 5-yard penalty puts them at 3rd and 7
The Cowboys players are getting banged up in this game. After a 15-yard gain by Davis-Price, Wilson was injured during the play and went hobbling off the field.
At 4th and 14, Dallas punts again. Anger's 53-yard punt is returned by McCloud, 12 yards.
Rush SACKED by Givens for a loss of 8
Cooper Rush is now in for Prescott - three interceptions too many really wasn't worth keeping in the game and especially not at this point
Both sides are pulling their starting QBs at this point as they know it's game over, even with 9:40 left in the game. Purdy is on the sidelines while Darnold takes over for the Niners.
This is getting hard to watch for the Cowboys fans
And Prescott throws ANOTHERINTERCEPTION - his third of the night, to Burks, who takes it up 12 yards.
Pollard makes an explosive, 26-yard run to the Niners 42
Moody's PAT is good and the Niners are up 42-10 with 13:59 left in the game.
The Niners are doing to the Cowboys what the Cowboys did to the New York teams and they look absolutely defeated.
Cowboys' VanderEsch was injured ont play
After Prescott threw an interception, Warner set up great field position for the Niners, who immediately took the ball into the end zone. It was Mason who hit the gas and ran 26yards into the end zone for yet another touchdown.

Purdy hands the ball off to Juszczyk who runs it in 1 yard for the touchdown. Moody's PAT is good and it's now an impossible lead with 14:19 left in the game.

McCaffrey for no gain - 2nd and goal Niners
END 3RD QUARTER
The Niners have no mercy on the Cowboys. They're already at the Cowboys 1 after Juszczyk took it up just short of the end zone just before the end of the 3rd quarter. The Cowboys are down 28-10 with no signs of catching up any time soon as things start to look gloomy for Dallas heading into the final quarter, especially with the Niners this close to adding another score.
At 3rd and 2, Purdy throws the deep pass to a wide open Jennings for 19 yards
Mason gets another 4, good enough for a first down
Mason takes it up 8 yards before he's taken down by Parsons and Clark
Prescott throws an INTERCEPTION to Gipson, who ran it back 18 yards. It was a deep and desperate, sloppy pass supposedly intended for Cooks.
Kittlegets his third touchdown of the night as the Niners make it look easy. After a 43-yard run by Deebo Samuel set up the touchdown play, Kittle caught it in the end zone for 10 yards and the touchdown. Moody's PAT is good. Niners take a gigantic lead over the Cowboys with 7:20 still to play in the third quarter.

It's not a problem for the Niners, though. They just do it again. Purdy hits Samuel, who takes off for another explosive 43yards to the Cowboys 18.
Purdy passed to Aiyuk who took off for a huge gain of 40 yards but it was erased by a Holding call on Niners' Burford, 3rd and 14 instead

Purdy throws a perfect pass to Aiyuk who picks up 23 yards

Prescott makes a huge play to Lamb, who gets an explosive 29 yards, but it's in vain as the Cowboys are held to 4th down just after and forced to try for a field goal instead of a touchdown. Aubrey makes the 50-yard field goal attempt and the Cowboys get on the board to start the second half - just not in the way they'd have liked.

Bosa is trying not to let Pollard get anywhere. He pushes him back a yard on 1st and only allows him 5 on the 2nd.
After an explosive play by Lamb though, Dallas is stuck at 4th down again as Hargrave pushes Dowdle back a yard.
Prescott scrambles and passes deep to Lamb for a huge gain of 29 yards to the Niners 37

The Cowboys will get the ball to start the second half. Dowdle takes off spinning to take the return 22yards to the Dallas 29.

Prescott SACKED by Greenlaw for a loss of 1, Cowboys end up at 3rd and 11 at their own 24 and that brings us to the end of the first half.
Niners' Jackson was injured on the play
Prescott passes deep to Cooks, but he makes the catch out of bounds
Dallas took a few timeouts and the defense was able to stop the Niners at 4th and 2 and they punt it back. Turpin takes it 4 to the 25-yard line.

At 3rd and 5, Ferguson just gets 3 after being pushed back by Oliver. Dallas will have to punt it away again.

Just when Dallas thought they could catch up, the Niners made it a 2-score game again. McCaffrey ran the ball into the end zone 1 yard to make the touchdown.
After the play, there were several flags - Unnecessary Roughness on SF's Moody, enforced between downs. Moody's PAT was good.

Purdy's next pass was thrown away and the Cowboys are wondering why there was no Intentional Grounding flag, and the refs say it's because he was outside of the pocket

Prescott was under pressure and made a quick deep pass to Turpin who turned up the speed and brought the ball into the end zone after 26 yards to finally put Dallas on the board. Aubrey's PAT was good to make it a 7-point game with 7:45 to go in the second quarter.

Prescott gets rid of the ball and avoids a sack, throws a nice pass to Ferguson who gets 20yards and the 1st
Prescott gets the ball to Pollard a few times, but it's not nearly enough. Dallas is at 3rd and 7...
Dowdle spins away from Bosa and picks up 5 yards. Cooks gets them the first with a 7-yard catch at the Cowboys 45.

After a back-and-forth battle on offense, Purdy got away and passed deep right to Kittle for 38 yards and he couldn't be stopped. Moody's PAT was good and the Niners take a two-score lead over the Cowboys with 13:16 to go in the second quarter.

Dallas punts it and McCloud returns it 15 yards. Niners back in action with amazing field position already. Cowboys defense? Your go.
Prescott tries to escape a sack and scramble away, but he's SACKED by Warner and loses 6 yards instead
Prescott goes for Gallup again and he hits him, but it's much shorter and it's not enough for the 1st down - 3rd and 2 Dallas
Prescott throws deep to Gallup but Ward was all over him and he knocked it incomplete
Back-and-forth possessions
McCaffrey burst forward nearly to the end zone, but Dallas is saying the ball came loose and that they recovered it, and the refs are agreeing.
McCaffrey landed on top of Lewis and Lewis held onto it as he was falling down. Dallas ball yet again.
END 1ST QUARTER
And that will bring us to the end of the first quarter. The Cowboys are trailing the 49ers by 7 and have just committed a turnover, giving SF the ball at the Cowboys 10.
The play was upheld - Dallas fumble, recovered by SF
After the return, Pollard took off, but the ball was knocked out of his hands. The refs are now debating whether it was out of bounds when it happened or if SF's Gibbins recovered it on the field. The ruling was a fumble and recovery by SF, but it's now being reviewed.
On 3rd down, Purdy passed it off to McCaffrey, but the Dallas defense knew exactly what to expect. They were ready to bring him down and they did so. At 4th and 20, Niners punt it back.
Purdy's next two passes to Aiyuk and Bell were deflected by Gilmore and Bland to bring Niners to 3rd down and15

At 3rd and 1, the Cowboys can't stop the Niners. Purdy tossed the ball to McCaffrey, who ran it past the mark and gave Niners the first down at the Cowboys 31
Purdy's pass to McCaffrey was broken up by Wilson, but Kearse was called for Offsides, giving the Niners the automaric first dwon
Hankins knocked down yet another one of Purdy's passes to set up 3rd and 5 for the Niners

On 3rd and 3, Prescott was SACKED by Bosa for a loss of 6 yards to make it another consecutive 3rd and out

On 3rd and 2, Hankins bats Purdy's pass away and now it's the Niners who've gone 3 and out
The 49ers have scored on the openingdrive in all of their 5 games so far this season, and now they've done it again
Cowboys go 3 and out on first drive
On the Cowboys' first run, Tony Pollard was swallowed up after just a yard. Prescott followed that up with two incomplete passes to Schoonmaker and Gallup and their opportunity is already gone. Back to the Niners.
The Niners drove down the field with ease, breezing past the Dallas defense and getting some long runs, mostly by Aiyuk. Kittle got the 19-yard catch in the end zone and Moody's PAT was good to make it a touchdown for the 49ers and give them an early lead with 11:10 still to go in the 1st quarter.
NINERS TOUCHDOWN!
Purdy passed to Samuel, who loooked to have fumbled the ball, but it was ruled incomplete. Before all that, a flag flew and it ended up being an Offsides on Cowboys' Parsons.
Purdy gets it to Aiyuk yet again for another 11 yards and the 1st down as the Niners make it down to the Cowboys 33
Purdy pass to Aiyuk was good for 9 yards and McCaffrey finished off the job with a 4-yard run to get the 1st down
On the second play of the game, Cowboys' Wilson got called for a Facemask penalty, 15 yards to give Niners 1st down

Can Prescott hit long?
The last time the 49ers and Cowboys met, Dallas QB Dak Prescott could not seem to make any pass attempts longer than 10 yards. The Niners played that to their strengths and they could very well do it again this time.
So far this season, Prescott has continued to throw short passes, but with Michael Gallup healthy and Brandin Cooks at receiver, they have been able to run deep rather than have Prescott pass deep. It could make the difference in getting past the San Fransisco D.
Deebo Samuel still on the mend?
The Niners receiver Deebo Samuel is still recovering from knee and rib injuries. Though he played through it last week, it was clearly still affecting him. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said that Samuel is still considered "day-to-day".

The rise of Brock Purdy
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy went from being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to starting in place of Trey Lance to taking the 49ers to a strong post season stretch last year. Now, he leads the SF team, which sits at 4-0 and looks to make it five.

Rivalry between the Niners and Cowboys
The rivalry between the 49ers and Cowboys has history, but has gotten even more intense in the last few years.
Both teams have five Super Bowl wins, but it's the Niners who keep knocking Dallas out of the post season the last two years.
Though it's just a regular season game tonight, the rivalry lives on as the Cowboys look to avenge themselves in this post season rematch.
The return of Tyron Smith...
If the Cowboys can play tonight with TyronSmith, it will mean they have their full offensive line healthy for the first time in 2 years. That's good news for Dallas, who will need everyone on the field to try to get past San Francisco.

Cowboys and Niners...where do they stand in Week 5?
Besides their one embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys have been quite dominant this season so far. At 4-1, it's been the defense who's carried the team throughout these four wins.
On the other side, we've got the San Francisco 49ers, who've had the best surprise in QB Brock Purdy since his rookie season last year, and they currently sit at 5-0 and look like the best team in the league. As for their defense, they have tended to struggle to convert third downs, doing so just 41.1% of the time. However, they do have defensive lineman Nick Bosa on their side, who is giving Cowboys CB Micah Parsons a run for his money on becoming Defensive Player of the Year this year.
Oh, and the Cardinals that Dallas lost against? The 49ers beat them 35-16.
The Cowboys and Niners are two of the best teams in the NFL so far this season, and the Niners have ended the Cowboys' post season run for two seasons straight now. Will the Cowboys be able to use that fuel to ruin the Niners' win streak tonight?
