Did Travis Hunter derail Shedeur Sanders’ NFL future?

Two of the most-talked-about players from the 2025 NFL Draft were Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Both the quarterback and wide receiver/cornerback duo were set to be top-ten draft picks, but Sanders ended up sliding all the way to the fifth round, eventually getting taken by the Cleveland Browns.

Hunter, on the other hand, was selected No. 2 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars actually traded up with the Browns to get Hunter. And that may have some undesired consequences on his old teammate.

Shedeur’s career over before it starts?

In trading with the Browns for the second overall draft pick, the Jaguars gave Cleveland the option for two first-round draft picks in 2026.

At the moment, they’ve got a plethora of quarterbacks. Sanders is competing with veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco as well as fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was selected before him. Deshaun Watson is also on the roster, but he’s out for the 2025 season with an Achilles injury.
