The Seahawks’ offense appears to have dodged a significant setback as wide receiver DK Metcalf briefly exited the game against the Lions in the first half due to a rib injury. The injury occurred during the opening drive of the game when Metcalf was caught between two Detroit defenders while making a catch near the end zone, resulting in a hit to the side of his upper body.

Following the injury, Metcalf was observed heading to the locker room and was initially labeled as questionable to return due to the rib injury.

However, Metcalf made a relatively swift return to the field.

The Lions came into Week 2 with momentum following their victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on NFL opening night, which had raised expectations for the team during the offseason. Despite the promising start against the defending champions, the Lions were unable to replicate their success against the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field with a 37-31 overtime loss to the Seahawks.

Metcalf, a fifth-year receiver for Seattle, forms a formidable wide receiver duo with Tyler Lockett. He had an impressive 1,000-yard receiving season in 2022 and began the 2023 season with three receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ previous game.

When Metcalf made a 16-yard catch on the opening drive and was tackled at the Detroit 1-yard line during the game, he fell to the ground. Lions’ safety Kerby Joseph delivered a shoulder blow to Metcalf’s side then. Although the drive resulted in a Kenneth Walker 1-yard touchdown, Metcalf later headed to the locker room and was initially listed as questionable to return. Up to that point, he had recorded two catches for 34 yards.

In addition to Metcalf’s injury, rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the 20th overall draft pick this year, also sustained an injury during the game but was able to return after being evaluated in the blue medical tent for a leg issue. On the defensive side, Seattle cornerback Riq Woolen was labeled as questionable to return to the game following a chest injury suffered in the first half.
