Fans of the NFL are already familiar with the new feel of Thursday Night Football, the place we always get our first taste of the week’s gridiron action. The entertainment for these nights has moved to a place primed for football viewing in the 2022 season, and you’ll not want to miss out on it.

Bills and Rams started Thursday Nights on Prime

The season’s curtain raiser saw the Buffalo Bills and the defending champion Los Angeles Rams lock horns on Thursday 8 September at Sofi Stadium in Southern California. Josh Allen and co proved in emphatic style just why they are seen as one of the hot favorites in the AFC coming into the season.

That game was aired on national TV, with NBC bringing us the first action of this NFL season, but the rest of the Thursday games this year, and going forward, were handed over to a new player.

This year Thursday Night Football moves from the NFL Network to a popular streaming service as the league goes digital. Amazon Prime Video has the rights to the league’s spotlight midweek matchup for the next 11 years.

Michaels and Hirbstreit on the mic on TNF

Prime’s debut broadcast was the AFC West showdown between the LA Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs on 15 September. There will be a total of 16 Thursday night games this season, including the Thanksgiving showdown between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots. The Thursday night finale will be a few days before Christmas when the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans square off with the sleigh-bells ringing.

Al Michales and Kirk Hirbstreit have been scooped up as the commentary team in the broadcast booth. Michaels is a season vet when it comes to primetime football games. He has worked for ABC and NBC doing Monday and Sunday Night Football. Kirk Hirbstreit’s broadcast career has largely surrounded the college game, but the former Ohio State Buckeye did get an intro to NFL broadcasting two years ago when he and Chris Fowler were on the microphone for the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers game.

How can I watch NFL Thursday Night Football?

With the TNF games shifting to the digital streaming service, it will require fans to have an Amazon Prime account and a subscription. If you don’t have Prime, and don’t plan on getting Prime then you should be able to find a bar close to you that will air the Thursday night spectacles.

Amazon Prime and DirecTV reached an agreement that will allow the TV provider to air Thursday Night Football in over 300,000 bars, restaurants and other businesses.
