Dolphins release Tyreek Hill: What Miami gains by releasing the Pro Bowl WR
The Dolphins WR has been released by the Miami side.
The Tyreek Hill era in Miami has ended as the Miami Dolphins released the eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver in what is one of the biggest roster revamps in franchise history.
Hill had been sidelined with a serious knee injury and was weeks away from turning 32; he will now enter free agency for the first time in his career with questions surrounding both his health and his future on the field.
By releasing him before key guarantees kicked in, the Dolphins have freed up substantial space under the salary cap, $22.8 million to be precise, potentially giving them room to address other needs rather than being weighed down by a top-tier receiver’s declining availability.
According to OverTheCap, Miami were set to enter the offseason $17.4 million over the NFL’s salary cap for 2026; Hill’s cap hit for 2026 is listed at $51.1 million.
Since his blockbuster trade from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, Hill was undeniably one of the most explosive weapons in the league. However, injuries coupled with wider team struggles have seen his stock drop and ultimately Miami have taken the decision to let him go.
He played in 54 games over four seasons in Miami but featured just 4 times for the Dolphins during the 2025 season.
