Estados Unidos Update:

The Dallas Cowboys named Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach after interviewing several candidates, but one franchise legend isn’t happy with the decision. Michael Irvin, a three-time Super Bowl champion (XXVII, XXVIII, and XXX) with the Cowboys, publicly expressed his disagreement with team owner Jerry Jones over the hiring of Schottenheimer, believing a better opportunity was missed.

In a video posted online, Irvin criticized Jones for passing on the chance to sign Deion Sanders, nicknamed ‘Prime Time’, as head coach, which he believes would have boosted the Cowboys both on and off the field.

“I don’t know Brian Schottenheimer, but I know this man [Deion Sanders], and here’s what I know about him and myself. Here’s my problem: we missed an opportunity here,” said Irvin. “I don’t know what happened with Coach Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys, but Jerry is a businessman, and I don’t understand how he didn’t see this opportunity. I wanted Deion Sanders as coach, and I’m fully committed to that. I can’t believe we didn’t figure this out.”

Frustration with NFC East rivals' success

Irvin’s frustration extended beyond the coaching decision to the current state of the NFC East. This Sunday, two of the Cowboys' divisional rivals – the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders – will face off in the NFC Championship Game for a chance to play in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.

“We’ve got two NFC East teams in the NFC Championship Game. Everybody’s watching them – the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. Our enemies on every front, and they’re in a position we haven’t been in for 30 damn years. The longest drought of any NFC East team,” Irvin said with evident frustration.

Schottenheimer becomes Cowboys’ 10th head coach

Brian Schottenheimer becomes the 10th head coach in the history of the Dallas Cowboys. Since their founding in 1960, the Cowboys have had only nine previous head coaches, starting with Tom Landry, who held the position for 29 years.

Jimmy Johnson succeeded Landry, leading the team to its last Super Bowl wins during his five seasons. Barry Switzer followed in 1994, before being replaced by Chan Gailey in 1998. Dave Campo’s tenure saw three consecutive 5-11 seasons, and Bill Parcells took over in 2003.

After four years, Jerry Jones replaced Parcells with Wade Phillips, who coached for three and a half seasons before Jason Garrett stepped in. Garrett remained at the helm until Mike McCarthy’s hiring, Schottenheimer’s predecessor.
