Update:

Life can turn around in a flash, and for Jaire Alexander, his time at the Green Bay Packers is set to come to an end.

On June 9, 2025, the Green Bay Packers have released Jaire Alexander, their two-time Pro Bowl and two-time Second-Team All-Pro cornerback, following an offseason of mounting tensions over his contract and availability.

The 28-year-old’s departure comes just before mandatory minicamp, marking the end of his seven-year tenure in Green Bay.

Alexander was a standout first-round pick in 2018, and earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honours in 2020 and 2022. However, his performances were overshadowed by injuries—he played only 14 games combined over the past two seasons and was limited by knee, shoulder, back, groin, and other injuries.

Off-field issues also emerged, notably a one-game suspension for “detrimental conduct” related to a coin toss incident late in the 2023 season.

Financial factors also played a major role in his demise as a Packers player. In 2022, the cornerback signed a four-year, $84 million extension which included eye-watering non-guaranteed base salaries: $16.15–$17.5 million in 2025 and around $18 million in 2026.

Green Bay had explored trade options but in the end, with little interest found, they opted to release him. This decision frees up approximately $17 million in 2025 and $27 million in 2026 while incurring $7.5 million in dead money for 2025 and $9.5 million for 2026.
