Packers 14 vs 12 Buccaneers summary: stats & highlights | Rodgers vs Brady on NFL
In a game that was headlined by two of the best quarterbacks of this generation, the defense was the difference maker as the Green Bay Packers took down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
Rodgers vs. Brady for the last time?
Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady squared off for perhaps the last time ever on Sunday from Tampa, and while neither quarterback has started their season particularly well, fireworks were expected on Sunday afternoon.
The Bucs offense was suspect in the first two games, but their defense got the job done to get them to 2-0 coming into Week 3. It was more of the same for Tom Brady and the Bucs on Sunday who didn’t punch the ball into the end zone until their final drive.
Rodgers and the Packers came out of the gates firing, scoring on their first two drives of the game. The four time MVP started off the game a perfect 5/5 and finished off the opening drive of the game with a five yard pass to Romeo Doubs to put the Packers up 7-3.
Packers defense kept Brady quiet
Green Bay’s defense held the Bucs on the next possession, as they did almost all game long, and the Packers would stretch their lead to 14-3 with an Allen Lazard TD catch midway through the second quarter.
It looked like Rodgers and the Packers would add to their advantage right before halftime but an Aaron Jones fumble on the goal line helped keep the Bucs in the game going into the second half.
The Packers offense went stagnant coming out of the halftime break, but luckily for Green Bay the Bucs couldn’t get into the end zone either. Tampa got a field goal in the third quarter to bring the Pack to with in one possession.
Too little, too late for the Bucs
Tampa Bay wouldn’t score again until there were 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Brady hit Russell Gage on a one yard TD pass, but the two point conversion was unsuccessful and the Packers held on to win to improve to 2-1.
Rodgers went 27/35 for 255 yards and two touchdowns with an interception with most of those yards coming in the first half. Brady had 271 yards and a touchdown, for for the third straight week the Bucs showed that they still have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball.
The Packers defense came up huge all day and on the biggest play of the game it was De'Vondre Campbell breaking up the pass on Tampa Bay's two point conversion try.
Gage got crushed but held on to the pass in the endzone of give the Bucs a chance late in the game.
The Bucs came up with a big turnover on the goal line and you got the sense that it was going to turn things around for Tampa Bay, but the offense wouldn't find the endzone until late it was too late.
Rodgers hit Lazard for the six yard slant pattern to put the Packers up 14-3 midway through the second quarter.
It would be the last time Green Bay would score, but the defense held stong in the second half.
The Packers started off the game on fire scoing on their first two drives, but their offense cooled off in the second half.

The Packers hold on after scoring on their first two drives of the day.
The two point conversioin is no good as Brady was looking for Gage in the endzone and it was broken up by the Packers.
TB is going to need a miracle now after the delay of game made it that much tougher to get the two point conversion.
The flag flies as Brady didn't get the snap off on time. Now the Bucs have to punch it in from the 7.

Gage Jr. makes the grab in the end zone after getting crushed as the ball came it. What a throw, and what a catch.

Brady looking for Brate in the endzone, but overshoots him and the Bucs have 3rd and Goal from the one.

Fournette stopped short of the endzone on first down, and the Bucs will have it at the one yard line with 2nd and Goal with 21 seconds on the clock.
Brady looking for Brate at the two yard line, the pass was incomplete but the Packers are flagged for pass interference.

Brady hits Gage on 3rd and 6 for a gain of 8 yards and the Bucs have 1st and Goal from the 10 yard line.

TB take over from their 11 yard line with 3:06 to go in the fourth quarter.
Rodgers is sacked for an 8 yard gain and the Packers will be forced to punt with just over 3 mintes to go in the game.
Dillon gets stopped for no gain on 1st down, and then Rodgers throws down field but leaves the pass way ahead of Winfree on second down.

Rodgers goes deep to Lazard for a gain of 26. The Packers are at the Bucs 42 yard line and are inching closer to field goal position.
The Packers get the ball on their 14 yard line looking to run down the clock and perhaps put the finishing touch on this game with a field goal or touchdown.
The Bucs will punt the ball with 6 minutes left hoping to get the ball back.
The TB defense has been stopping the Packers all half long.
Tampa goes with a little trickery on a flea flicker which almost turned into a fumble. It was recoverd by Brate, but it created a 2nd and long that ended the drive.

The Packers can't take advantage of the interception getting negated. Their drive comes to an end and the Bucs will have another chance to tie the game.
Rodgers throws a pick going deep down the field looking for Cobb, but Dean stepped in and came up with the interception, but the Bucs had too many men on the field and the play got waved off.
Dillon picks up 5 yards on the first down play, but a holding flag will bring the Packers back to the 12 yard line.

On 3rd and 7 Brady goes to Beasly on the slant route, but he gets stopped after 5 yards and the Bucs will have to punt.

The Packers get stopped on another short drive in which they couldn't move the chains.
The Bucs will start their drive from the TB 14 yard line still searching for their first touchdown of the game.
Dillon picks up 2 yards on first down and then Tonyan makes the catch on the sideline and muscles his way up the field for and 6 yard gain to bring up 3rd and 2 from around midfield.
GB gets the ball back at the 44 yard line after the Bucs punt looking for their first points of the second half.
Since the fumble late in the first half the Packers have not been able to move the chains.
Brady's pass on 3rd and long is incomplete and the Bucs will be forced to punt from their 20 yard line.
Brady takes off and picks up a huge gain on 3rd and 3 after ducking under a sack in the backfield and took it up field for a 18 yards, but it's coming back after a holding call.

The good news for Green Bay is they pin the Bucs back to the one yard line after a fantastic play by Nixon to down it right before the goal line.
