What a way to go. With a 20-16 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the Green Bay Packers have been eliminated. It wasn’t supposed to end this way, with many pundits warning the rest of the NFL that despite their poor showing early on, squeezing their way into the post-season was enough to make them a real threat. Oh well!

With the Packers’ record of 8-9, it means no playoff for their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers and fans are wondering if this is a disappointment that he has faced before.

A look at Aaron Rodgers’ career

Rodgers has played for the Green Bay team since 2005, after being snapped up from the University of California, Berkeley, in the first round of the NFL Draft. In 2008 he become the first choice QB. Although he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, it’s fair to say he is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks of all time. He has been named the NFL MVP twice, and has led the Packers to Super Bowl glory. He has also been selected to the Pro Bowl a number of times. Tough to knock that record!

Despite his success on the field, Rodgers has had to overcome some challenges off the field, including a strained relationship with the Packers owners and a rift with his own family.

Has Aaron Rodgers ever missed the playoffs before?

He may have had some pretty impressive post-season performances but Rodgers has indeed missed out on the NFL playoffs prior to this season. The Packers, with his arm in play, didn’t progress in the 2008, 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2020 campaigns. That makes it six times in total out of the 15 he has been with the team and number one QB, or on the flip side, nine times they’ve reached the playoffs.

Of course, disappointments are needed to make the highs even higher, but questions will now be asked whether Rodgers will ever reach the achievements of before. No one can ever take away the 2011 ring though.
