Update:

When Micah Parsons asked to be traded, most people didn’t take it seriously. It seemed like just another bit of drama in the Dallas Cowboys locker room that owner Jerry Jones loves to create. He assured us that a trade wasn’t happening and not to worry about it.

And here we are today - Parsons is a Green Bay Packer of all things. It’s not just the teammates and fans who are shocked. Former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett couldn’t believe it when he heard the news either.

Jason Garrett compares Micah Parsons to NFL legend after trade

Garrett admitted he was “shocked” by the team’s decision to trade Parsons to the Packers. Speaking on PFT Live, Garrett emphasized Parsons’ rare ability to disrupt quarterbacks, calling him a “transformative” player who changed the entire identity of the Cowboys’ defense.

“You know, the most important player on a football team is the quarterback. The second most important player on a football team is the guy who can negatively affect the quarterback,” Garrett said. “And those guys are hard to come by, and ever since that guy has come into the league, he has been a dominant player.”

Garrett even likened Parsons’ impact to Hall of Famer Reggie White, noting that such players are almost impossible to replace.

“If you think about the Cowboys in 2020, they were 6-10, they weren’t a very good team, and then he gets there along with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and all of a sudden, they’re a different team. And if you look at all those interceptions that their DBs were making, [DaRon] Bland and [Trevon] Diggs and you’re intercepting them and running back for touchdowns . . . look what’s going on around the quarterback on those throws.”

“Micah Parsons is the guy causing all the problems, and those guys are hard to come by. If you think about, you know, four years, 52 sacks, he and Reggie White, being used in the same sentences. He’s an impactful player, and I was shocked that they let him out of the building.

Jones took things too far this time, refusing to negotiate with Parsons’ agent and isolating Parsons for no good reason, resulting in losing one of their best and most impactful players. Garrett’s comments highlight just how significant the loss could be for Dallas, while the Packers now gain one of the league’s most dominant defensive forces.
