Inside Fernando Mendoza’s lavish first day with the Raiders
The Raiders gave No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza a star-level welcome, complete with a private jet, family moment, and personal tour from ownership.

The Las Vegas Raiders are clearly wasting no time building a connection with their new franchise quarterback, and they’re doing it in a very on-brand way.
A behind-the-scenes video of No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza’s first day with the organization is making the rounds, and it’s exactly the kind of content that resonates in today’s NFL. Personal, polished, and a little bit theatrical.
Raiders roll out the red carpet for Fernando Mendoza
From the moment Mendoza steps onto a private jet with his family, the message is obvious. This isn’t just another rookie arrival. This is the guy. The Raiders are treating him like the face of the franchise before he’s even taken a snap.
NFL teams are starting to understand that quarterback development isn’t just about playbooks and reps. It’s about confidence, comfort, and buy-in. Flying in his family and making them part of the moment signals long-term commitment, not just to Mendoza the player, but Mendoza the person.

Mark Davis sets the tone
Owner Mark Davis personally gave Mendoza a tour. It’s a small detail, but a significant one. Owners don’t always make themselves this accessible, especially on Day 1.
For a rookie quarterback, that kind of visibility reinforces two things: You are important here, and we expect you to lead. The Raiders are building early trust with Mendoza, but they’re also controlling the narrative around their current rebuild.
Of course, there’s another side to all this. When you’re the No. 1 pick, flown in on a private jet, spotlighted by ownership, and immediately positioned as the future, you’re not easing into anything. You’re being launched. For Mendoza, the challenge now becomes living up to that presentation. But he is up to the challenge.
“I believe that leadership is earned, not given. And there’s so many amazing leaders on this team,” Mendoza said.
“In my college career, I was very blessed and it was a great, significant career,” he said. “However, in the NFL, I’m at the bottom of the totem pole again. So I’m really forward to proving it every single day to everybody in the building.”
