Update:

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter has officially been listed as a starting wide receiver and backup cornerback on the team’s first preseason depth chart, confirming plans to use him as a true two-way player in the NFL.

Coach Coen all in on Travis Hunter: “He can do it all - and earn it’”

Head coach Liam Coen, speaking on “The Rich Eisen Show”, said he believes Hunter could make history by winning both NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, something that’s never been done. Coen praised Hunter’s work ethic, mental toughness, and how teammates are pushing him to earn his place despite being the No. 2 overall pick.

The team hasn’t revealed exactly how many snaps Hunter will take on offense or defense, but Coen emphasized: “We want to play him as much as we can.”

Last season at Colorado, Hunter proved he could handle the heavy workload, logging over 750 snaps on both sides of the ball and winning the Heisman Trophy with standout stats:

  • 92 receptions, 1,152 yards, 14 TDs (offense)
  • 29 tackles, 4 interceptions (defense)

Hunter admits the mental load is tougher than the physical one, but he’s embracing the challenge, and the Jaguars are preparing him for intense NFL matchups, starting with Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers and cornerback Jaycee Horn, who won’t be going easy on the rookie.
