Jalen Hurts and Aaron Rodgers will not be pleased when they see the new NFL QB Tier list... or will they?

Update:

The latest NFL QB tier list from DraftKings Sportsbook has thrown football Twitter, sorry, X into chaos. Not because of where the likes of Jalen Hurts and Aaron Rodgers landed, but because no one appears to have much idea why they landed there. Let’s take a look...

How did DraftKings decide NFL QB Tier list?

First things first, here’s the list in question, if you haven’t already seen it:

Posted without explanation, the viral list asked one simple question: “Any idea how we ranked the QBs?”

Unsurprisingly these days, that didn’t stop the outrage.

Jalen Hurts in Tier E? Lamar Jackson in D? Josh Allen down in C? Joe Burrow above all of them? It brought a smile to my face... but I was also keen to get to the bottom of it. Surely the replies would have the answer, right?

One of the leading theories was talent. DraftKings even replied “Talent” in a follow-up post. But that doesn’t work for me.

Other guesses ranged from “nicknames” and “number of women photographed with this offseason” to more X-rated metrics not worth repeating here. One user was more sporting specific: “Maybe odds of leading the league in passing yards and/or TDs?” Maybe. But then, why is Dak Prescott in Tier B? (Sorry, Cowboys and girls!)

I’ll admit, part of me loves this. It’s bait disguised as a puzzle, where everyone who bites – mainly those that don’t even realize it’s a game – reveals their own QB bias.

If I had to pick just one, Fantasy value (Daily Fantasy Sports-focused) seems like the smartest bet. But I wouldn’t rule out that DraftKings just wanted the engagement. As one user said: “How can we piss people off the quickest?” The Occam’s razor principle.
