Messi will be appearing during Super Bowl LVIII
The Argentina and Barcelona legend, now starring in MLS for Inter Miami, will be one of those playing a brief role in the climax to the NFL season.
He was the star of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, carrying the Argentine national team to glory over the French in a dramatic final. Since then he has made the trip from Paris, where he played for PSG, across the Atlantic to reignite global interest in Major League Soccer, signing a mega-contract with David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

With preparations well underway for the new season, Lionel Messi has also got himself involved in the pinnacle of the other type of football, and will be making an appearance at Super Bowl LVIII on 11 February.
Messi teaser for Super Bowl ad
OK, let’s be clear. Whether he is actually at the big game - which will be the Chiefs or Ravens against the Packers or 49ers - is still unknown to us. But those who are watching on television, which, of course, is the vast majority of people, will be seeing his face. In a beer advert.
That’s right. The teaser above is for what is said to be a 60-second commercial for Michelob Ultra featuring the man known as La Pulga. In the ad, Messi steps up to a beach bar to order a large glass of the aforementioned lager brand that is paying him a keg-full of cash to do so, and, much to his acting disappointment, a problem arises with the tap. There’s a message about being more prepared in there somewhere.
Has Messi appeared in a Super Bowl ad before?
Just as he did with Newell’s Old Boys, Barcelona, PSG and Argentina, this is yet another debut for the iconic number 10. Messi and Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of Michelob, have had a relationship dating back to 2020 and it will continue into the summer’s Copa América. It could potentially also continue to the 2026 World Cup which is being held in the US, Mexico and Canada.

What was Michelob Ultra Super Bowl LVII ad?
While it may be Messi’s first time in the commercials of the climax to the NFL season, it is not that of the beer company. Last year the company threw us back to the country club of comedy movie Caddyshack and gathered together stars including Serena Williams, Rickie Fowler, Alex Morgan, Tony Romo, Jimmy Butler and Canelo Alvarez. The theme was super bowling.
If that’s anything to go by, we should be in for a very Messi treat come 11 February.
