Tua Tagovailoa, quarterback of the Miami Dolphins, returned to training on Wednesday after suffering serious concussions in weeks 3 and 4 of the NFL, but he will not be lined up by head coach Mike McDaniel in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

“I don’t see him inside yet. I can say with certainty that he is not going to play this week,” McDaniel said.

The quarterback sustained his first concussion on Sept. 25, in a Week 3 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, late in the second quarter. He left the field after suffering a blow to the back of the head, but he was authorized by the NFL to return for the second part of the game.

Two successive hits to the head

On Thursday, Sept. 29, without any medical restrictions, Tagovailoa started the game against the Cincinnati Bengals and suffered another concussion. He was taken to the hospital but was released the same day.

Since then, the 24-year-old complained of severe headaches that made it imperative for him to stay under medical observation within the concussion protocol.

Bridgewater takes over

Last Sunday, in Miami's Week 5 loss to the New York Jets, Teddy Bridgewater took his place on the field.

Unfortunately, Bridgewater also suffered a concussion from a hit to the head on a play, was forced to leave the game, and will also be unable to play Sunday against the Vikings.

Bridgewater will be replaced by rookie Skylar Thompson, selected in the seventh round of this year’s draft, who will make his first NFL start against Minnesota.

With Tagovailoa as the starter, his team had a three-win streak. His absence has resulted in two defeats.
