Update:

Following an NFL legend like Tom Brady is daunting, if not impossible task but that’s exactly what Baker Mayfield signed up for when he joined the Buccaneers on a one-year, $4 million deal in the 2023 offseason.

His first season with the Bucs wasn’t easy - he found himself competing with Kyle Trask and John Wolford for the QB1 slot and ended taking part 17 regular season games and posting the best figures of his career - concluded the season with 28 touchdown passes, 4,044 passing yards and a 64.3% completion rate.

Baker Mayfield steps up to tall task

It was enough to prompt Tampa Bay to offer him a three-year extension, worth $100 million. Last year, Mayfield hit a new career high, completing the campaign with a passer rating of 106.8 with 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions - the third best passing figures in the league after Joe Burrow and Jared Goff.

It also earned him a second consecutive Pro Bowl callup.

Bucs Wide Receiver Mike Evans couldn’t contain his enthusiasm when talking about about what Mayfield has brought to the team. In an interview with Kevin Hart, Evans spoke about the impact the former Browns player has made in Florida.

Huge, huge impact,” Evans replied. “He’s a big reason as to why I came back. The energy that he’s brought to Tampa - after Tom, and that’s some huge shoes to fill, a huge act to follow. And I think he’s done an unbelievable job, winning two division championships, making it to the postseason. But Tampa’s in great hands with Baker - I’m sure he’ll play much longer than I will. I’m looking forward to a great season this year and competing for a Super Bowl”.

The Bucs’ preseason schedule taking shape

The Bucs’ Training Camp begins July 24 at the Advent Health Training Center - three of those sessions will be open to the general public: July 24, July 25 and August 1. To commemorate the new season, the franchise’s 50th in NFL, Tampa will hold a special 50th Season & Legends Day, with special appearances by Buccaneers legends on Saturday, August 2.
