NFL dominates the 100 most-watched US TV broadcasts in 2024: You won’t believe what comes in 2nd place
The NFL is still king when it comes to TV viewing figures, but a certain event came close in 2024.
As you might expect, the NFL remained hugely popular across 2024 when it came to television viewing figures. In fact, the sport took up a mind-blowing 72 of the top 100 spots in what we watched on the box last year.
Revealed by Sportico, the number one event across the entire year was, of course, the Super Bowl, when the Kansas City Chiefs took home the trophy after a thrilling event against the 49ers which saw over 123 million pairs of eyes glued to their screens.
However, the NFL did not come in second place. The silver medal instead went to something completely different, an event that snapped up more than 67 million viewers.
Harris-Trump debate a huge pull for viewers
Kamala Harris vs Donald Trump was in fact the second most watched TV event of 2024 in the United States. Joe Biden had stepped aside, allowing for a fresh face to take his place. Harris, who we found out owned a gun, went in on Trump who went on about immigrants, pet-eating Haitians and abortion.
Like him or not, Trump draws people to him when he speaks, and it certainly showed, with the 2 debates bringing in more viewers that the biggest NFL games of the season outside of the Super Bowl itself.
The Divisional Playoffs couldn’t outmuscle the debates, with the first of the two seeing north of 50 million viewers. It must be said that the NFL utterly dominates all the way down the list, with just a few College Football games and the odd political address breaking them up.
Which NFL side got the most views in 2024?
Kansas City Chiefs share top billing with the Dallas Cowboys with 13 appearances in the top 100, with the Baltimore Ravens appearing ten times. Buffalo Bills, arguably the standout side this season, are in the list 9 times.
The Paris Olympics 2024, Women’s College basketball games and the World Series don’t break the top 75, while the Academy Awards and the Grammys come 74th and 96th, respectively.
