NFL Fantasy Football: Is Travis Hunter worth the risk in 2025?

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter seems set for a historic NFL season, but how will that translate into the fantasy world? Here’s his outlook.

Update:

Travis Hunter made history as a full-time two-way player and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner at Colorado, excelling as both a wide receiver and cornerback. Now with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who traded up to draft him No. 2 overall, Hunter is poised to continue playing both sides of the ball, but that dual-role magic doesn’t necessarily translate well to Fantasy Football.

Fantasy dilemma: How to value Travis Hunter in 2025 drafts

First of all, despite elite college stats on offense (96 catches, 1,258 yards, 15 TDs), Hunter’s defensive contributions won’t yield points in most fantasy formats, which limits his overall value. And although he’s expected to have a significant impact on defense, it’s not worth drafting the Jaguars’ entire defense either if that’s how your league works - they are ranked 30th overall according to fantasypros.com.

Here’s a deeper look at how Hunter could be scored in NFL Fantasy Football leagues.

At Colorado, in the same year he put up elite offensive stats, Hunter also defended 15 passes, caught four interceptions, and caused a game-winning fumble as a cornerback. ESPN projects a solid rookie year with the Jags on offense (80 receptions, 967 yards, and 6 touchdowns), but uncertainty remains about his usage, stamina, and injury risk due to playing defense.

With breakout wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. already established on the Jags’ offense and Hunter’s offensive role still evolving, fantasy managers are split: his average draft position is 68.5, but he swings much higher or lower depending on the league. Ranked WR30 by FantasyPros, Hunter’s talent is undeniable. But for now, he may help the Jaguars more in real life than in fantasy football lineups.
