Aaron Rodgers’ wish has come true. The Green Bay Packers traded the veteran quarterback to the New York Jets in exchange for a package of college picks, ESPN and NFL Network reported.

A year after signing a three-year, $150 million contract extension with Green Bay, Rodgers said the Packers notified him that their intention was to go “in another direction.” The controversial quarterback took his time and even went into a dark retreat to make his decision, which he announced a few days ago: his choice was to continue his career in the NFL and play for the New York Jets.

The negotiations between both teams took weeks, but finally, there is an agreement between the Jets and Green Bay

According to reports to ESPN, the Jets have given the Packers their first-round pick, a second-round pick, and a sixth-round pick, plus a sixth-round pick is tentatively on the cards.

Thus, Rodgers ends a long era in Green Bay where he spent his first 18 years, three of them in the shadow of Brett Favre and 15 as the undisputed starter.

His Legacy as a Green Bay Packer

Rodgers leaves Green Bay after compiling a 147-75-1 regular season record, with 59,055 passing yards, 475 touchdown passes and 105 interceptions

With him, the Packers won Super Bowl XLV, at the end of the 2010 season.

Green Bay, however, failed to return to the Super Bowl, despite playing in four other NFC Finals, including the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Rodgers was named MVP in 2011, 2014, 2020, and 2021. For critics, the QB has fallen short in the Playoffs, where his record is 11-10. He ranks fifth all-time in passing touchdowns and ninth in passing yards.

In the 2022 season, he became the fifth quarterback in NFL history with 500 passes to the end zone, including playoffs (520), joining the exclusive club that includes Tom Brady (735), Drew Brees (608), Peyton Manning (579) and Brett Favre (552).

The future is in New York

Rodgers takes control of a revamped Jets offense that reportedly followed at least one of the quarterback’s own recommendations during the free agency period.
