Packers - Eagles betting trends: Pick, odds, point spread and over/under prediction | NFL week 1
The Packers and Eagles are set to open their 2024 NFL season with a clash in Brazil but what are the odds and predictions for this one? Let’s dive in.
In what will be the second game of the 2024 campaign, the NFL is taking us to South America where the Packers will take on the role of hosts against the Eagles. Where the Packers are concerned, they will be hoping that Jordan Love can deliver on his obvious potential as he leads the team in his first full campaign as the starting QB. The Eagles, on the other hand, have what could be considered a loaded offense having seen the addition of Saquon Barkley during the offseason. Kickoff from Neo Quimica Arena in Sao Paolo is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
Packers - Eagles: The lay of the land
The NFL International Series will head to Brazil for the first time as the Green Bay Packers face the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night. The game will see two playoff teams from last year that are likely to make similar runs again go tooth and nail. Where Philly is concerned, the team went 11-6 while the ‘Cheese Heads’ from Wisconsin managed to finish 9-8. When it comes to the head-to-head, it’s worth noting that these franchises have split their last 16 all-time meetings, with Philadelphia coming out on top the last time they played back in 2022. That of course brings us to the odds themselves which you can see below:
With that, it’s time to dig a little deeper in terms of what to expect in this game, starting with Philadelphia. Last season, the Eagles spent the large majority of the season as the team to beat following wins against the Chiefs and Bills after their Week 10 bye. What followed, unfortunately, was a 42-19 loss to the 49ers which subsequently left the Eagles stumbling their way to the finish line, winning just one of their last six games.
Though they did make it to the playoffs, they were ultimately upset by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round. Of course, there have been some significant changes since then, namely the aforementioned acquisition of star running back Saquon Barkley, and the addition of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in this year’s NFL Draft. That’s to say, the defense is more solid
So, what about the Packers? Consider for a moment that Green Bay finished the 2023 season 4-0 against the spread and that includes the playoffs while the Eagles went 0-7. Talk about opposite outcomes. On the other hand, the past does show us that the Packers have been a team that starts hot against the spread, evidenced by the 13-4 record that the team has enjoyed since 2019 when Matt LaFleur became the head coach.
To be clear, LaFleur has the best ATS record during that time. Where the roster is concerned, the Packers have maintained the large majority of what was last season’s youngest team in the league. With that in mind, there is a degree of continuity that their opponents do not have, given the loss of veterans like Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox.
