Gardner Minshew joins Chiefs on one-year deal
The Chiefs signed Minshew to a one-year deal after the Raiders released him with a failed physical designation.
In 2024, he played in 10 games for the Raiders with nine starts, completing 66.3% of passes for 2,013 yards and nine touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He was injured in Week 12 with a fractured collarbone, which could be the reason for his failed physical designation.
Minshew will now replace Carson Wentz, whose contract expired ahead of free agency, as Mahomes' backup. The Chiefs will be Minshew’s fifth NFL team after playing with the Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, and Indianapolis Colts. In his six seasons in the league, he’s thrown 68 touchdowns and 34 interceptions in 59 games (46 starts).
