Patriots’ Jack Jones arrested on gun related charges after criticizing Grizzlies’ Ja Morant. Crazy right?
Though it may seem incredulous, yet again we’ve got to report on another high-profile professional athlete who has found himself in trouble because of guns.
Even before we delve into the debate as to why an NFL player would be caught in possession of a firearm, one truly has to question why on earth he’d be detained with weapons at an international airport.
Patriots’ Jack Jones arrested for possession of a firearm
According to reports from Massachusetts State Police, New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones was arrested on Friday night at a TSA checkpoint at Boston Logan International Airport, after two firearms were discovered in his carry-on luggage. At approximately 5:30 p.m. the weapons were discovered at which point police were called to the scene. As things stand, Jones has been charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device. It is understood that he was traveling from Boston to Arizona at the time.
For their part, the Patriots released a statement in which they addressed the situation. “We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today. We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time.”
The irony of Jack Jones’ situation is unreal
So, as things stand, Jones who is entering his second season in the NFL has been booked and his bail set at $50,000. Now, while it may seem like just another case of an irresponsible young athlete disregarding the platform on which he stands, it actually gets ‘better.’ Just a month ago, Jones was front and center on social media as he offered direct criticism of Memphis Grizzlies All-Star, Ja Morant, who had been caught for the second time brandishing a firearm in a video on social media. As we now know, Morant has received a significant suspension from the league for his actions. This is to say it offends reason that just a few weeks later Jones would find himself in a gun-related situation after chastizing the NBA star. One can only hope he will take some time to reflect as he awaits whatever action is sure to be taken by both the league and his team.
