The LA Rams will be sporting some unique kit in their NFL playoffs Wild Card game against the Minnesota Vikings, paying tribute to the emergency responders dealing with catastrophic wildfires in the city.

Players, coaches and staff will be wearing shirts and hats bearing the initials ‘LAFD’, representing the Los Angeles Fire Department. Monday’s game against the Vikings has already been moved to Arizona’s State Farm Stadium as LA continues to recover from the disaster.

The new teamwear is not simply a show of support, it will also be used to raise money to help those fighting the effects of the wildfires. The gear is available on the Rams' online store and the team have confirmed that they, the NFL and manufacturers Fanatics will not be taking any profits.

“Help support the efforts of the Los Angeles Fire Department as they battle the California wildfires with this Los Angeles Rams LAFD T-Shirt,” the product description reads.

“Funds raised from the sale of these T-shirts will be granted to the LAFD Foundation and American Red Cross to support local firefighters and those impacted by the wildfires in Southern California.”

Rams head coach Sean McVey was among those in LA who were evacuated last week as the fires spread across the city. He admitted that his own experience had really brought home the horror of the situation: “It felt a lot more real — I don’t want to say that because you don’t want to minimize how important and how many people were affected, but when you can start to see it physically as the smoke rose up yesterday, there was a lot of guys that live in proximity and that hits home in a different way."
