The New Orleans Saints released veteran running back Jamaal Williams on Tuesday after a lack of production.

In the last two seasons, New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams started just five games and rushed for 470 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints had higher expectations, so on Tuesday, they released the veteran.

Williams was the Saints' RB2 behind Alvin Kamara. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of BYU and he spent his first five seasons there before moving to Detroit to play one season with the Lions. He joined the Saints in 2023.
His 2024 season was one of his worst as he put up just 48 carries for 164 yards and one touchdown through 14 games.
You could call Jamaal Williams' two seasons with the #Saints disappointing. After a career season in 2022, Willams rushed for 470 yards and 2 TDs with New Orleans. https://t.co/NMbGDiBMEg

Potential landing spots for Jamaal Williams
Williams will surely have some suitors who could use his experience on their squad behind their starters though. Here are a few teams in need of a running back for the 2025 season that could benefit from adding Williams.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys did not fill in the hole left by Tony Pollard last season, bringing in Ezekiel Elliott to assist Rico Dowdle. Running back will be one of their biggest priorities this offseason.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers can count on Chuba Hubbard, but with the injury of Jonathan Brooks, they could use some help behind Hubbard. He would be a nice addition to the squad at least for one year.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens obviously have their star in Derrick Henry, who has one season left on his current contract. Behind him are Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill. Mitchell wasn’t exactly what they’d hoped for and while Hill performed well last season, the Ravens may want another man in the backfield to reduce Henry’s snaps and keep him healthy.
