Saquon Barkley’s only con coming to Philly last offseason

There is no question who the signing of last year’s NFL offseason was. Saquon Barkley is in the midst of a historic first year as a Philadelphia Eagle and now he has a shot at Super Bowl glory for the first time in his career.

No regrets for Barkley

It was a rough few years in the Big Apple for Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants. The running back struggled through injuries, quarterback inconsistency and offensive incompetency after being taken with the second pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Giants passed on the chance to pay the best running back in the league last season and let him enter the free agent market. It wasn’t long before the Philadelphia Eagles came calling, and the rest is history.

During Philly’s Media Day from New Orleans, Barkley was asked about the process of his decision to leave NY for the City of Brotherly Love. Barkley said he and his family made a list of pros and cons of making the move within the NFC East. “The only con about Philly was I might get some slack because I played in New York.”

Plenty of pros in Philly

The Eagles and Giants are eternal rivals that have a historic distaste for one and other, and New York fans were crushed when it was announced that Barkley would be joining their division rivals.

Barkley rubbed salt on the wound in his only game against the Giants, running for 176 yards and a TD on 17 rushes in his only game against his old team. The pros for the Eagles single season rushing leader were pretty clear. “The talent that we have, going against those guys and hearing stories about the organization, and most importantly those big boys up front (his current offensive line).”
