Shedeur Sanders getting a head start on rookie season prep in Miami rain
The Cleveland Browns took Shedeur Sanders with the 144th pick of the NFL Draft. It was a shocking drop down the draft board, and now the rookie is out for revenge.

It was one of the stories of the NFL Draft coming into the selection show, and it was one of the most meteoric drops down the draft board we have ever seen. Shedeur Sanders went from a projected Top 5 pick to getting drafted in the 5th round, and now he seems intent on exacting revenge on all of the teams that passed on his in the first four rounds.
Training in the rain
We got a first look at Sanders in OTAs and the mandatory minicamp, and now the rookie gunslinger was spotted training under the Miami rain. While it’s nothing new seeing a quarterback getting ready for the season a few weeks before training camp starts, it will be a comforting sight for Browns fans who are looking for a little stability at the QB position for the first time in a long time, maybe ever.
There were a handful of reasons that Sanders dropped to the fifth round, and a lot of those were centered around his pre draft attitude. It was reported that he went into interviews with teams as if he was being recruited by a college team rather than trying to make an impression on a potential employer.

Sanders is one of the hardest workers in the entire league.

Another reason could have been who Shedeur is and where he comes from. Whether it’s fair or not, his dad, Dieon, was one of the most polarizing players in the history of the NFL. There would be added media, added attention and added pressure with everyone involved in the team. From coaches to other quarterbacks to the GM that drafted him, everyone would be under the spotlight that much more.
Cleveland’s QB room
That’s the case with the Browns, who have a shaky QB room at best heading into the season. They currently have Deshaun Watson, who may or may not return to play this season after suffering not one but two achilles injuries last year. The Browns also have 40 year old Joe Flacco, who has proved he can play, but might be around to take Shedeur under his wing.
Kenny Pickett was signed by the Browns this offseason as well, and considering his mix of youth and experience that might be the Browns best bet for Week 1. His two years in Pittsburgh weren’t great, but it’s hard to blame that on a QB who was at the head of an offense that struggled before and after he was there. He spent last year in Philly as Jalen Hurts’ back up, won a Super Bowl and now he’s fighting for the QB1 spot in Cleveland. Dillon Gabriel is also a part of the QB room looking for a roster spot.

It’s becoming more and more common to see rookie QBs start in Week 1, but it would come as a big surprise if a QB selected in the 5th round was under center as the Browns kick off their season. It’s time for Sanders to put in the work, and from what it looks like he’s putting in the work, even before training camp starts on July 25th.
