Stefon Diggs faces legal troubles ahead of Super Bowl LX
The New England Patriots wide receiver faces a defamation lawsuit related to an alleged 2024 robbery as the most high-profile week of his career turns dark.

Just as all media attention should be fixed on the field at Levi’s Stadium and the possibility of the New England Patriots being crowned champions in Super Bowl LX, Stefon Diggs is once again making headlines for reasons unrelated to football. Less than a week before the decisive game, the veteran wide receiver faces a new civil lawsuit that threatens to overshadow his on-field success.
According to legal documents obtained by the US outlet TMZ, a man claiming to have worked for Diggs has filed a lawsuit for defamation and other civil claims, alleging that the player falsely accused him of theft after a Ferrari went missing in Houston in 2024. The suit claims Diggs and his representatives spread the accusation, and the plaintiff further alleges that associates of the receiver attempted to intimidate him.
The episode adds to an already controversial season for Diggs away from the field. The Patriots wide receiver has also been dealing with criminal charges of alleged asphyxiation and assault filed in Massachusetts following an incident involving his former chef. The arraignment hearing was postponed until after the Super Bowl, allowing him to continue competing without immediate court restrictions.
Meanwhile, both the NFL and the Patriots have maintained a cautious stance, keeping the focus on the team’s preparation for their clash with the Seattle Seahawks. Coaches and executives have praised Diggs’ resilience as he reaches his first Super Bowl after more than a decade in the league, following a 2015 season in which he led New England with over 1,000 receiving yards.
In addition to the defamation claim, the lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff was assaulted by men hired by Diggs. Reports from the same source state that his brother, Trevon Diggs, was present during the incident, though not an active participant, and is therefore being named as an accomplice.

This unexpected legal chapter, unfolding on the eve of the most-watched sporting event of the year, raises an inevitable question: could a civil lawsuit detract from what should be a defining moment in Diggs’ career? For now, the receiver has not commented publicly, and he is not expected to do so until after the game.
