The Tennessee Titans have the first pick in this spring’s NFL Draft after a miserable season in Nashville. President of Football Operations Chad Brinker gave an indication of who the Titans would be taking with the No. 1 overall pick, but didn’t mention any of the top prospects by name.

Titans earn top pick after dreadful season

After a season that saw the Titans win just three games, and finish at the bottom of the barrel in the AFC they made some institutional changes in the front offices, and more will come over the next few months when it comes to personnel on the field. Brinker named Mike Borgonzi the new general manager at Nissan Stadium, and what better time to join a franchise than when they have nowhere to go but up?

The Titans “earned” the first pick in the draft when the New York Giants won their Week 17 game against the Indianapolis Colts, which gave the Titans the advantage in the three way tie between Tennessee, New York and Cleveland. Now the Titans have to get their ducks in a row as the NFL Draft rapidly approaches.

In the press conference introducing their new GM, Brinkler seemed very clear that the Titans are eyeing a certain player for the opening pick. “We won’t pass on a generational talent with the fist pick of the NFL Draft.”

Who is going No. 1?

Now, Brinkler could be talking about a number of players in this draft class, considering the top heavy talent at the top of the draft board. Travis Hunter was the Heisman Trophy winner and a dynamic two way player that can catch the ball and lock down at the cornerback position. Cam Ward is one of the best quarterbacks in this class after his one and only season at the University of Miami. And then there is Shedeur Sanders who made headlines all year as the quarterback of the Colorado Buffaloes.

According to ESPN’s Best Available board, Abdul Carter is the best overall player in the class, but the Titans have been in desperate need of a quarterback for the last decade. It seems more and more likely that Tennessee will use their first pick on a QB, especially when you consider the success rookie QBs like C.J. Stroud and Jayden Daniels have had in their debut years in the NFL.

So the question is: Shedeur or Cam? Ward went from the University of Incarnate Word to Washington State and finally to Miami, and threw for more 18,000 yards and 158 TDs in his five years in college. Sanders has NFL pedigree, as the son of Deion Sanders who also served as his coach at the University of Colorado. After two years at Jackson State, he followed his dad to Colorado were he passed for over 7,000 yards an 64 TDs while throwing a total of 13 INTs in his two years in Boulder.

The Titans seem clear on who they want as their face of the future, but they will have some time to mull on their decision. The NFL Draft starts on April 24th and the Titans will start the festivities with the No. 1 pick. Who will they pick? We’ll just have to wait and see.
