Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have officially filed for divorce, as of Friday 28 October 2022. The pair filed similar messages on Instagram saying that “co-parenting” would be their priority. In total the couple were married for 13 years; they have two children together, Benjamin (12) and Vivian (9). They also parent Brady’s first child Jack (15), who he had with former girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.

In breaking the news to his followers, Brady said that the couple “arrived at this decision [to divorce] amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.” Brady said the priority for the couple is their children and that they plan to “work together as parents” to “ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve.”

Brady’s marriage in trouble for some time

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen have been one of the strongest couples in sports and entertainment for more than a decade. Despite the obstacles, they have always found a way to stay together. However, they are both going through a crisis in their marriage.

According to Page Six, the model left her family compound in Tampa, Florida, to go to Costa Rica after a series of heated discussions about Brady’s decision to not retire from the NFL.

A source told Page Six that the Buccaneers quarterback “is very sad right now.” “The friends know that this time they have had a serious disagreement. It seems like Gisele gets mad and says things like she’s leaving him, but in the past they always made up. But maybe this time it’s more serious”, added the source.

The informant also pointed out that Brady "is just trying to be a super dad", since the athlete is taking care of the children he shares with the model, Benjamin, 14, and Vivian, 9, in addition to Jack, his 15-year-old son who shares with his ex-partner Bridget Moynahan.

Brady takes a break

In August, the Buccaneers quarterback missed 11 days of practice due to “personal issues.” “It’s all personal…everyone has different situations they’re dealing with. We all have really unique challenges in our life. I’m 45 years old, man. There’s a lot going on,” he said.

As for Gisele’s motives, another source told Page Six that “there have been problems in the marriage because of the quarterback’s decision to un-retire. “They had agreed that he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind,”, added the informant.

However, these problems have been occurring for the last few years. In 2020, during an appearance on Howard Stern's SiriusXM show, Brady admitted that his wife didn't feel like he was doing his part for the family.

“She felt that I would play football all season and she would take care of the house. She was not satisfied with our marriage. So I needed to make a change. Her point was, ‘Well yeah, of course this works for you. Everything works for you. But it doesn’t work for me’”, said the athlete.
