Update:

Travis Hunter is one of the most versatile rookies in recent memory and has joined the Jacksonville Jaguars with hopes of playing both wide receiver and cornerback.

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has said the team does plan to honor his wishes, but that in his rookie season, he’ll have a primary position, and that will most likely be at wide receiver. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence needs all the support he can get, but situational defensive appearances haven’t been ruled out for Hunter either.

As for the future? Hunter hopes to be able to play as many snaps as possible on both sides of the ball. But not everyone sees that as sustainable.

Saints star weighs in on Hunter’s unusual NFL path

NFL veteran and Saints defensive star Cameron Jordan weighed in on Hunter’s unique two-way talent, praising his ability to play both sides of the ball. Jordan believes Hunter could handle playing both positions...for a season.

“I mean, why not?” Jordan said Thursday on NFL Live. “He did it in college and he showed excellence. He was at the top of the best positions, at both DB and receiver. You could say the top.“

“I just need to know what position he’s starting at. Like, if you say DB, then you have to limit your reps at wide receiver,” Jordan continued. “And if you say wide receiver, then you have to limit your reps at DB. Do I think that he has 120 snaps in him? Yes. For a season? Probably. For 10 years? Absolutely not.

Jordan is an experienced defensive player in the league, and he knows the toll it takes on the body. While Hunter is perfectly capable of playing both positions - and at an elite level - his career may eventually be cut short because of it.
