Travis Kelce makes huge retirement revelation: “I got one year on this contract”
Kelce endured a difficult 2024 NFL season with the Chiefs, promoting speculation he could retire to spend more time with Taylor Swift.

Rumors that Travis Kelce could end his NFL career and sail off into the sunset with Taylor Swift have gathered pace almost from the moment the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024.
Despite the Chiefs again reaching the NFL’s showpiece game last season, Kelce endured a tough year, with his statistics (97 receptions, 823 yards, and three touchdowns) his worst in nearly a decade. That led to speculation that he would decide to call it quits, which he has now revealed was never seriously on the cards.
Chiefs tight end “never thought that much” about retiring
“I love football. I don’t think I thought about it that much,” Kelce told reporters at the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp. He did, however, admit that he felt he “let the guys down” with his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in the most recent Super Bowl, in which he made only four catches for 39 yards.
Rather than be deterred, though, the disappointment appears to have spurred Kelce on to regain his best form in the upcoming 2025 NFL season, which gets underway in September.
Kelce drops big future hint
“I didn’t feel like it was my last game,” the tight end continued. “I still have fire in my chest to keep building and chase another Super Bowl.”
Now 35, Kelce’s NFL career will inevitably come to an end sooner rather than later. But not only will he be back in Chiefs red for the 2025 season, it also looks as if he will be sticking around in Kansas City for at least another year after that.
“I got one year on this contract. We’ll try and figure out something for next year. I can’t see myself ever playing anywhere else.”
