What did the New York Jets’ Sauce Gardner say to the Denver Broncos’ Russell Wilson post win?

Was it bad Karma, bad play, or simply one team being better than the other? No matter how you cut it, the Jets are enjoying their win over the Broncos.

Sunday’s clash between the New York Jets and Denver Broncos was always going to give us talking points. What we couldn’t have imagined is that following the game, the players would continue the back and forth for themselves.

Sauce Gardner owns Russell Wilson

By now you probably know that the New York Jets beat the Denver Broncos on Sunday. With that in mind, you most certainly know that there was a whole lot of chatter coming into the game due to the fact that Broncos’ new head coach, Sean Payton, had some very nasty things to say about his predecessor, Nathaniel Hacket, the man who is now the Jets’ offensive coordinator. In light of that, the men in green took the field with special motivation on Sunday as they looked to get some “payback” for their OC. To that end, it came as no surprise following the team’s 31-21 win at Mile High Stadium in Denver, some players took to social media to do a little bit of trolling

Indeed, one such player was the Jets’ star cornerback, Sauce Gardner, who a short but definitely funny jab at Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, who it has to be said did not have a good night. “Jets Country.......LETS RIDE,” posted Gardner on X (formerly Twitter), followed by a horse emoji.

What was Sauce Gardner referencing with his post?

If you didn’t know, it was last season - his first in Denver - that Wilson attempted to coin the phrase “Broncos Country, let’s ride.” Ultimately, Wilson’s phrase became the butt of many jokes as the former Super Bowl winner went on to post the second losing record of his career, while registering career worsts in completion percentage (60.5%), passing touchdowns (16), and passer rating (84.4). Keep in mind that Wilson was signed by the Broncos as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and was understandably expected to breathe new life into a faltering Broncos offense. Also, consider that the Broncos sent Wilson’s former team, the Seattle Seahawks, two first-round picks, two second-round picks, one fifth-round pick, and three players in exchange for him.

At this point, Wilson and the Broncos are sitting on a record of 1-4, which is to say that Gardner’s use of an old joke is the least of their worries. Quite frankly, while the loss to the Jets will sting with all of its pregame context, the reality is that for the combination of a championship-winning quarterback and coach, this simply can’t be. What Payton, Wilson, and the rest do from here is anyone’s guess, but rest assured there will be no shortage of jokes from around the league should they continue to stumble.
