Mostly common in the MLB, UCL or ‘ulnar collateral ligament’ injuries occur with overuse and wear and tear on the ligaments in the elbow, that if damaged, typically results in ‘Tommy John’ surgery. UCL injuries can range from complete tears to less severe damage like inflammation. The Tommy John surgery is colloquially known by that name as T.J. was the first baseball pitcher to undergo UCL surgery and successfully return to his sport.

Meanwhile in the NFL, a Buffalo Bills quarterback is suffering what looks like one of baseball’s serious UCL injuries.

Josh Allen suffered an injury on the final drive of the Bills’ 20-17 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, when Jets’ edge rusher Bryce Huff chopped down on the arm of Allen, forcing a fumble.

The Bills would recover, but Allen to not have.

Josh Allen injury update

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Allen is going to be limited in practice during this upcoming week. In Week 10, Buffalo (6-2) hosts the Minnesota Vikings (7-1). The Bills will probably have to wait and see how Allen progresses on the injury report as the week transpires.

Allen: “Slight pain but I’ll get through it”

On Sunday, the 26-year-old was seen grabbing his right arm and elbow before going for a final incomplete throw to Gabriel Davis to seal the Bills’ loss. After the game, he confirmed that he was dealing with a “slight pain” in his elbow, but said he’ll “get through it.”
