SUPER BOWL LVII

What is Jason Kelce’s charity (Be)Philly Foundation? Why are fans donating $14.90?

It’s always encouraging to see fans of two different teams put aside their differences in the name of something bigger than their allegiances. The Chiefs faithful have done that.

Though a little tongue-in-cheek, you’ve got to love the effort made by the Chiefs fans, who have most graciously given to the Philadelphia based charity, that was started by Eagles center, Jason Kelce. Since his teams Super Bowl loss to Kans City, his organization has received a whole lot.

Chiefs fans are showing Jason Kelce a lot of love

Following their heart-breaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl last Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles will surely have a reason to crack a smile after reports confirmed that the fans of the Chiefs are actually doing something very meaningful for them. Though you may or may not know this, Eagles center Jason Kelce has a charity called the “Be Philly Foundation,” which has apparently received a significant amount of donations since the big game, from Chiefs fans specifically. Indeed, during a recent episode of the podcast that he hosts with his brother and Chiefs player, Travis Kelce, Jason shone a light on the organization which he launched in October last year and from there, it things took off.

The foundation which describes its mission as one that “provides financial support and increased visibility to charitable organizations, with a proven track record of improving the education and economic outcomes of students in the Philadelphia public schools,” has since received more than $80,000 - at the time of writing - in donations, which is definitely more than the $10,000 that it had received up until the episode aired.

What’s the deal with the $14.90 figure?

If you find the amount of $14.90 that’s been floated around puzzling, we get you don’t worry. The reason behind the figure, is actually quite simple and moreover heartwarming. After the Super Bowl, Chiefs fans took to social media where they suggested via the official Chiefs Kingdom Memes Twitter account, that they should all donate to Kelce’s charity in increments of $14.90. Why you ask? Simply because Jason’s jersey number 62 became $6.20, while Travis’ No. 87 was converted to $8.70. Put the two together and you’ve got the grand total of $14.90. In the end, it’s always nice to see when fans can come together despite which team won or lost.
