It seems as though the 26-14 loss to the Lions was the final straw, as Las Vegas Raiders announced on Tuesday that head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler were finished at the franchise.

The statement said that ‘The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Josh McDaniels and David Ziegler of their duties as head coach and general manager,’ and added a quote from owner Mark Davis.

“After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave. I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.”

Antonio Pierce in as Raiders’ interim HC

Thoughts now turn to who will take over and with the Giants up next on Sunday, plans are in place.

According to sources close to Adam Schefter, Antonio Pierce was being lined up for an interim head coach role, while Paul Gutierrez suggested that assistant general manager Champ Kelly will be ‘promoted’ to interim GM. It didn’t take long for confirmation to arrive:

‘The Las Vegas Raiders have named Antonio Pierce as the Interim Head Coach.

‘Pierce is in his second season as linebackers coach the Las Vegas Raiders, has seven years of coaching experience, and nine years of NFL playing experience. Before joining the Raiders, Pierce spent five seasons at Arizona State serving as linebackers coach before adding the titles of associate head coach and defensive coordinator.

‘The Las Vegas Raiders are committed to undergo a comprehensive search for a head coach once the season is complete.

Raiders will go into the next game with a record of three wins and five losses. The work starts again now.
