Why is Colts’ Anthony Richardson ruled OUT?
Gardner Minshew takes over as quarterback during Sunday’s Colts-Texans game as Anthony Richardson exits the game with a concussion
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been diagnosed with a concussion and has been declared OUT for the remainder of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
Richardson sustained the head injury early in the first quarter when he appeared to hit the back of his head on the turf while executing a 15-yard touchdown run. Despite remaining in the game for two more Colts possessions, during which he did not receive any obvious hits, he was later taken to the medical tent and subsequently to the locker room for further evaluation.

The Colts experienced two three-and-out possessions after Richardson’s injury, although it remains unclear whether the hit on the touchdown run directly caused the concussion. Officially, Richardson was ruled out late in the second quarter, leading to Gardner Minshew taking over as quarterback.
There has been increasing concern about Richardson’s injury risk when running the football due to his proficiency as a runner and the Colts’ tendency to utilize him in this role. Richardson had rushed for touchdowns on both of the Colts’ first two series in the game.
