Why isn’t Jaire Alexander playing for the Packers against the Dolphins on Thanksgiving Day in week 13?

The cornerback has missed four games this season and will sit out Thursday’s matchup against the Dolphins.

Jaire Alexander is back on the Packers' injury list and it’s unknown when he is likely to return. The cornerback picked up an injury to his right knee towards the end of the 30-27 win against the Jaguars in Week 8 and sat out the next game (a 24-14 defeat to the Detroit Lions) - plus the following one as the Packers had a bye in Week 10.

He was listed as questionable ahead of the the Week 11 game against the Bears and played just 10 defensive snaps before being withdrawn in the third quarter.

“I just tried to give it a go,” the player told reporters afterwards. All I could really give was 10 plays and then I felt something. I reaggravated it going back out there and only doing 10 plays, so now we just trying to get my knee back right”.

Alexander was also ruled out of last week’s win over the 49ers and has not practiced in a fortnight.

What knee injury has Jaire Alexander suffered?

The player told The Athletic that he has torn the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his right knee. What he didn’t disclose what the severity of the injury. A low grade tear or sprain could heal on its own in 2-6 weeks but a Grade III tear could take up to four months.

Looking on the positive side, there has been no mention of surgery which can be taken as a good sign.

Ja-Money is ruled out of tonight’s game against the Dolphins. Head coach Matt LaFleur has Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Eric Stokes and Corey Ballentine as alternatives while his starting CB is out.

Jaire was sidelined with a Grade I inguinal groin pull which kept him out for a couple of weeks earlier in the campaign.

Dolphins at Green Bay: One of three games on Thanksgiving

Neither the Packers nor the Dolphins held a practice on Monday - both coaches opting for a walkthrough on Tuesday. The demands of playing three games in a week can take its toll as coach LaFleur explained in his pre-match press briefing.

It’s the same for both teams. I don’t know what Miami was doing but my experience in this league, for most teams, that’s just the way you go about it on a Thursday night game. We’ll move around a little tomorrow but all the prep is in, all the game plan is in at this point. Now it’s just the fine tweaking that we may do as coaches and really trying to detail it up for our players over the next 48 hours”.

The Week 13 game between Dolphins and Packers will be played at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Thursday November 28, with kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET / 5:20 p.m. PT.
