Why isn’t Trevor Lawrence playing against the Carolina Panthers?
As they head into a critical Week 17 game, the Jaguars do so knowing that they will likely have to face the Panthers without their starting quarterback.

While there was hope that he might recover in time for Sunday’s game, it is now certain that Jacksonville’s star will have to sit out a game that could have serious effects on the playoff picture for others.
Trevor Lawrence to miss Week 17
The Jacksonville Jaguars were hoping for a boost ahead of their Week 17 clash with the Panthers, but unfortunately, that won’t be the case. According to reports on Thursday, star quarterback Trevor Lawrence is out due to a right should injury and will miss Sunday’s game. It is the second game in a row that the 24-year-old will miss due to injury.
The Jaguars are 8 - 7 and have a 72 percent chance to make the playoffs. If they win, they’re in. If not, they depend on other results. Their last game will be on Jan. 7 against Tennessee.
So who are the Jaguars starting at quarterback?
That will be C.J. Beathard. Interestingly, the 30-year-old backup has recently dealt with a shoulder injury. He came in to replace Lawrence last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was 11 for 15 with a TD and no interceptions. Jacksonville is hoping Beathard can get them past the Panthers and keep their playoff hopes alive.
