Update:

Jayden Daniels is edging closer to a return, but the Washington Commanders still do not know whether their franchise quarterback will be available for Sunday’s trip to Minnesota. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year has missed three games with a dislocated left elbow and remains in the final stages of functional testing. He has practiced since late November, but crucially has not been cleared for contact.

How are Commanders doing without Daniels?

Coach Dan Quinn has kept expectations in check. Earlier this week he said the team will not know Daniels’ true Week 14 status until Friday, calling the quarterback’s progress steady but incomplete. The 24-year-old is just as eager to get back onto the field, telling reporters he wants to play as soon as he’s fully healthy.

A return would represent a remarkably quick recovery for an injury once feared to be season-ending. It would also give a struggling unit a jolt after three tough weeks. In Daniels’ absence, veteran Marcus Mariota has gone 1-5 as starter, showing flashes but lacking consistency. Behind him, journeyman Josh Johnson has been the primary backup, with rookie Sam Hartman on the practice squad.

Will Daniels play against the Vikings?

Right now, it’s genuinely uncertain whether he’ll make it. Washington won’t make a call until the medical staff completes its evaluations at the end of the week. If Daniels is cleared, he’ll have a real shot to play. If not, Mariota will continue to lead the offense into a pivotal December stretch.
